Let\u2019s look at this email from your boss\u2019s perspective, and why they might decline your vacation request:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They\u2019re worried a project you\u2019re working on won\u2019t get done while you\u2019re gone<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They don\u2019t want your workload to wind up on their desk<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They don\u2019t want to run around reassigning your tasks to other people<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The email script overcomes these objections and gets them to say \u201cYes\u201d to your vacation leave because of these three reasons:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It opens with a friendly tone. Saying \u201cI would like\u201d is a much softer request than stating \u201cI request\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m taking this time off.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word \u201cbecause\u201d is strategically chosen as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/brain-wise\/201310\/the-power-the-word-because-get-people-do-stuff\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it increases compliance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Saying \u201cbecause\u201d and giving your boss a reason for the time off (no matter what the reason is) makes it more likely they will say yes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember how your boss was worried your work wouldn\u2019t get done? In the last section you ease that concern by showing them you\u2019ve already thought about that.
